The Indian Embassy in Washington DC has denied any release from the Ministry of External Affairs regarding passport surrender certificate. Last week, the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin had welcomed a press release announcing that it was not required to give up a 10-year-old passport to obtain a surrender certificate anymore.

An Indian American and his wife were shot at by an unidentified assailant in Sacramento, California on Thursday.While Balbir Singh Dhami was killed, his wife Kuldip Kaur Dhami was taken to the area hospital for treatment of "critical injuries", according to Sacramento Police spokeswoman Laura Peck. The shooting happened just after 10 am at the 7900 block of Marla Way Marla in North Laguna Creek in South Sacramento.

California based Tri-Valley University president Susan Xiao Ping Su, finally got arrested early on Monday morning. She has been indicted by the federal grand jury on 33-criminal counts, charging her with wire fraud, mail fraud, visa fraud and conspiracy to commit visa fraud, use of a false document, making false statements to a government agency, alien harboring, customs enforcement's homeland security investigations.

Electronic tagging is back to haunt students once again in the United States. Two students from the Tri-Valley University, which has been shut down on charges of a massive visa fraud, were radio tagged in Virginia on Tuesday following a meeting with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax.
